Mr. Very, Mr. Gebhardt, and Mr. Chropka will be at the 2015 Allegheny Intermediate Unit STEAM Showcase Open House on Wednesday, September 9. We will be presenting the success of, "STEAMing Jaguars," a recent grant establishing a technology infused lab funded by the AIU. A portion of the funding provided through the STEAM grant serviced the initial launch of the SpotEd program.
Over the summer, the old computer lab was deconstructed and the new SpotEd Media Studio was created. There is a new, larger green screen, teacher instruction area, and student seating in this renovated, flexible studio space that will enable the program to develop.
SpotEd Media is now on Twitter!

I created a YouTube channel to share our videos and embed videos in this website. Most videos can be accessed here on the main site so there is no need to have children browsing through YouTube to find their videos. The main purpose of the YouTube channel is storage and easy access for everyone. In general, the only videos that you would need to go to YouTube to find are older JETV News videos. Parents, in the near future I will provide instructions on how you can download videos from the YouTube site so that you can have permanent access to the videos involving your child(ren).
I found out today that the SpotEd program is a finalist for the Spark Grant from the Sprout Fund! Things are continuing to move forward in the program as we are developing this website and organizing in anticipation.
Today, I submitted a grant proposal to the Sprout Fund requesting $14,685 to renovate the upstairs computer lab and convert it into a video production studio. The grant would also provide multiple mobile video camera units that can travel to classrooms to record lessons. These images are 3-D renderings of the future video studio along with a picture of the current computer lab. There will be studio lighting, cameras, portable microphones, and other equipment mounted to the ceiling and in the space between the stage and audience area. The tiered seating provides a space for students to come and watch live productions such as skits or demonstrations or participate in a game show, lesson, or other activity. Our JETV News morning announcements, Spotted interviews and talk show, and other productions will be filmed in this new space! With more mobile technology such as laptop computers and tablets, the old computer lab model is simply not as efficient. Since we have mobile technology carts that can bring these devices into the classrooms, the computer lab is no longer the best use of space. We will find out within the next few months if we are awarded the grant funding.
